Timeline: The History of College of the Mainland

THE NEED
College of the Mainland (COM) had a special building grand opening event approaching and wanted to showcase the rich and engaging history of the college at the event. However, the thought was last minute and only 9 days were available from design start to finish to meet print deadlines.

MY APPROACH
Collaborating with the marketing team, a final scale and format was determined that would strategically fit at the event and be portable for reuse later. While the team collected hundreds of the college’s timeline photos, I researched hundreds of other timelines online. With most seeming lackluster with a look that had been done before, I wanted to create a timeline with a more engaging approach and modern aesthetic exploration even though time was short. After sorting and identifying what photos would be used, a rough design layout was created scaling elements to desired sizes. Final photos and elements went through an array of enhancement techniques for the enlargement of small and low resolution images.

THE RESULT
The double-sided, 20ft wide x 8ft tall, timeline was a huge success for the grand opening event. It was later moved to a high-traffic location to share the rich history and story of COM to campus guests and staff. It has also popped up for other events.
